Flags in May?

A high school friend of my mom's called me the other day.  She runs a group home and it was one of her residents' birthdays.  She didn't give me specific instructions, just that his favorite things were flags, Santas, and the color red.   I seriously wanted to make Santa cake pops in May but feared that it might jinx our (sort of) nice weather.

Cake Pops in a hurry

I can't always promise that you will get the cake flavor or coating color that you want on short notice but I can promise I will do my best.  In just a couple days I had two different women call, from two different towns, that needed cake pops ASAP.  It happened to work out that I had a couple cakes frozen in the deep freeze... just in case.  I always try to keep stocked up on different colors and flavors, so don't be afraid to give me a call last minute!

Hola! Soy Dora!

I was asked to make Dora cake pops for a little girls' second birthday.  After alot of pondering, I decided fondant would best suit Dora's hair.  I even "cut" it to look like her's.  As far as I can tell from the internet, I am the first person to actually make "Dora" herself as a cake pop!

Thinking of Spring

I loved these baby bluebird cake pops.  After I got the pictures on my computer (and the pops had been eaten) I was a little disappointed with the angle of the picture.  These were far cuter in person!  The only thing that would have made them better is if I had made nests for them to sit on.  I actually thought of how I would make the nests... also after the pops were gone.  Maybe next time!

Baking Hiatus

It has been a seriously long time since I blogged.  That doesn't mean I haven't been baking!  I have made many things, sent them out the door, then thought, Oh darn, I forgot to take a picture.

These little treats tasted so good.  Can't get much better than rise krispie treats, covered in chocolate, on a stick... with sprinkles.

People have shown a TON of interest in my work lately so it was time to get in gear and post the things I have taken pictures of.  I am doing a wedding in a couple weeks that I am very excited to post.  I have had many people ask about weddings and pricing.  It looks like it will be a sweet summer :)

Happy Cupcakes

When asked to make penguin cupcakes for a girls birthday, I remembered a picture I saw in a cupcake decorating book.  But I wanted to be a little more original than that!  I just watched Happy Feet the other day and all I could think about was them sliding down the mountian.  These little guys are made out of fondant that I colored black.  The birthday girl requested red velvet cake... something I have never made or even tried myself.  I made it from scratch using a Martha Stewart recipe, then cream cheese frosting and coconut to make it look like snow.  I wish I had made an extra one to try myself!

Minnie Mouse

Can you get any cuter than Minnie Mouse? These were almost too cute to give away!

I just love the bows on both the pops and cupcakes.  Possibly the cutest thing ever made out of sugar!

Snowflakes!

I couldn't resist doing some white on white snowflake cupcakes.  I had ideas to go even more elaborate, but unfortunately these were made for a funeral that my service group was serving at.  I thought a funeral isn't really the time for super fancy cupcakes!  My favorite part of all though is the plate.  I bought it this summer and only now found a purpose for it!

Colorful and crazy cake pops!

These were for a young girl's birthday party.  Totally reminds me of myself at that age.  Everything was colorful and fun!

Little Deer

I thought and thought for a couple weeks about how I could make cupcakes look like deer.  I saw some in a magazine but they were just the faces.  I wanted an actual deer!  I combined what the magazine did with the face with a cake pop and a cupcake...

and then of course added a little white tail!

Just a couple holiday suggestions!

Here's a couple ideas for gift giving this holiday season!  First, imagine this cake pop as a cute Christmas decorated pop.  Then you wrap it with celophane and tie a cute (red) bow on it.  These make a great gift for people like teachers, neighbors, co workers etc, sunday school students.  You can't go wrong with something cute and tasty on a stick!

Next, you can take that same Christmas cake pop (or probably a few), place them in a box with Christmas tissue paper, pop the pops in the mail, and let USPS take care of the rest.  I've already tested shipping cake pops and my Granny in Kentucky said they arrived in perfect condition!  A great, inexpensive, one of a kind gift for friends and family out of state!

Cupcake Pops!

Who could resist a mini cupcake on a stick with sprinkles?  I tried a peanut butter cake recipe which was fantastic.  Stay tuned for more posts later this week... I've got lots of orders with fun ideas!

Dr. Seuss Continued

Since we weren't going to eat the cake I made for the party, I made cake pops for everyone.  I used my "award winning" chocolate cake recipe and turned the pops into Cat in the Hat fish bowls.  They were a hit!

Dr. Seuss

It was my son's first birthday.  I thought I may have outdone myself with my daughers Little Mermaid cake.  This was my first experience with fondant and I was a little nervous... but I think I managed to do Dr. Seuss justice!  We actually didn't even eat the cake.  Its still on my table-I may put it in the freezer and take it out each year for his birthday, just to look at it again.

More cake pops!

I made these pops for an artist.  She was having an open house at her art studio and retail shop and wanted something unique to serve.  Since then (which was only 3 days ago) I've already had calls from people to order them.
